You folks remember my bleating about the new Bruce Springsteen record last October, and how fucking unbelievably great it is, right? You remember me telling you "even if you're not a fan, you need this record NOW because it is astonishing," right?
This is for those few of you who didn't listen to me, and went "really? Bruuuuuuce? (fist pumping) Dude, why?"
Please. Trust me. Listen to this song. Today I noticed it was my iTunes Top 25 most played song -- 21 plays in the last couple months, which is a LOT for this particular ADD listener.
And remember: *I* wasn't even really a fan when I fell in love with this song, okay?

I've been a fan since high school, (pre- Born in the USA though, and the fist pumpers/flag-wearers always make me sad and I totally love the way his voice sounds on this song. It's just so summer and wonderful, like listening to The Wild, The Innocent, & the E Street Shuffle..

I'm a fairly new fan of Bruce . . .
so I don't really get all the references to his fans wearing flags, etc. but I love his way of painting a picture. SO many of his songs really evoke a mood or scene, not just with the words, but with the music and the way his voice sounds. I agree, this particular song is probably one of his best.

I couldn't agree with you MORE on this one. I grew up in the 70's, a child of the singer-songwriter scene. When the beautiful (to my young eyes) Kari W. walked into high school Spanish carrying "Darkness on the Edge of Town", I sold my soft-rockin' soul to rock 'n' roll. My first concert was seeing Bruce in 1980 (on The River tour!).
It'd been years since a Bruce album seeped deep into my soul though. This one, is all that. And more. I could (and do) complain about Brendan O'Brien's production, but it's the songs. Not a duff one in the bunch and the man distills the wounded soul of a nation after almost 8 years of 'Magic'. And it rocks so good.
So thanks for speaking up. I'm right there with ya. And this Friday, my wife and I, and the two boys (8 & 11), we'll go down to the river (the Willamette, at least :) ) and see Bruce & the band at the Rose Garden in Portland.
